Essential protection for any flat tappet engine!
I've got a Jeep with the workhorse inline six that's been around since the late 60s.... Only left US production in 2006 to put in perspective how solid a motor this is. Anyhow, as a flat tappet design it needs ZDDP which has all but disappeared from most consumer oils. Rotella supposedly still has a little bit left in, but it's hard to find any concrete info one way or the other. For a few bucks extra per oil change it's not breaking the bank to toss one of these bottles in.

Good product
This product is absolutely necessary for all pre 1980 vehicles with flat tappet camshafts. The modern oils do not have sufficient zinc in them to lubricate the engines in older vehicles properly. The modern oils are designed for roller camshaft which all newer vehicles have, however it would be wise to use this additive in modern vehicles as well, because it helps protect other moving parts besides just the camshaft.

Peace of Mind if you own an old car.
I own an old 1964 Ford Falcon convertible with a 302cid 4V V8,it has a flat tappet(non-roller lifter) hydraulic cam in it. Now that the Federal Government and EPA have mandated reducing and eliminating the anti-wear additive Zinc dialkyldithiophosphates (often referred to as ZDDP) from our motor oils this product gives me peace of mind that I can enjoy my old cars with out worrying about camshaft and lifter failures caused by new motor oil that is not meant for older cars anymore. Even the Shell Rottella 15w-40 diesal oil has reduced ZDDP levels now. ZDDP is supposedly reported to build up in the catalytic converters causing them to fail.

ZDDP,a must for older high performance machines
I have an older (over 25 years young) corvette. I've changed my own oil since I was old enough to turn a wrench. I've always used the best oils available at the time, currently fully synthetic. I never used any "oil additives" for various reasons, the biggest being they're mostly hype. But after researching and reading a lot of material over the years in the changes of motor oils' formula, I realize I am no longer protecting my engine as well as I thought. Thanks to the EPA and catalytic converters, zinc compounds are no longer present in sufficient quantities to protect pressure points in older designed valvetrains. ZDDP is exactly what the doctor ordered !
